Thinking about commissioning a Munson? Here are the questions we are most often asked about custom shop builds, bespoke guitars, pricing, timelines, deposits and the design process.
If you are considering a build, the best first step is a design conversation. We can talk through the kind of guitar you want, what is possible, and whether a Custom Shop, Bespoke or Private Stock guitar is the right route.
A custom guitar is not simply a different set of parts. It is an instrument built around the way you play, the sound you are looking for, and the details that matter to you.
A Munson can begin with one of our established Custom Shop models, or with a more individual bespoke idea. Either way, the aim is the same: a one-off guitar made for a specific player, not a production-line instrument.
The first step is a design conversation.
We will talk through the kind of guitar you are looking for, including body style, neck feel, woods, pickups, hardware, finish and any personal details you want to include.
From there, we can guide you towards the right route: a Custom Shop build, a fully bespoke commission, or an available Private Stock guitar.
Most Munson made-to-order builds sit in the £3,500–£4,500 range, depending on specification.
Fully bespoke guitars are priced individually depending on the design, materials, hardware, finish and level of complexity. More involved bespoke projects may sit above this range.
Payment is split into clear stages: deposit, design sign-off, pre-assembly and completion.
Build times vary depending on the specification and current workshop schedule.
As a guide, Custom Shop guitars usually take around 16–20 weeks from order to completion. Fully bespoke guitars may take longer, typically 3–6 months, depending on the complexity of the project.
We will give you a clearer estimate once the design has been discussed and agreed.
Every Munson is set up and checked before it leaves the workshop, but small adjustments can sometimes be needed once a guitar settles or reaches its new environment.
If something does not feel right, speak to us. In many cases we can talk you through a simple adjustment. If the guitar needs to come back to us for further work, we will advise you on the best next step.
Please keep the original shipping box and packaging.

Wherever possible, we use British-sourced materials and work with suppliers who match the standard we want for the instrument.
Depending on the build, this can include English woods, locally made pickups, British strings and high-quality cases. We also aim to make careful use of materials in the workshop and avoid unnecessary waste.
For us, sustainability is part of building properly: choosing good materials, making instruments to last, and avoiding disposable thinking.

Because each Munson is built to order, we only take on a limited number of commissions at once. If you are thinking about a custom build, the best first step is to get in touch and start the conversation.
Yes. We make the HANGAR® guitar and bass stand in our workshop, using real hardwoods and a secure String Swing yoke.
A Custom Shop guitar starts with one of our established Munson models, such as the Avenger, Tempest, Marauder or Mosquito. You then choose the details around your playing style, including neck, woods, pickups, hardware and finish.
A Bespoke guitar is more open-ended. It may involve a new body shape, unusual construction, a more personal design brief or a higher level of individual detailing.
Yes. Left-handed guitars are part of what we do, not an afterthought.
Most Munson Custom Shop and Bespoke builds can be made left-handed, and we are happy to talk through the options during the design conversation.
Yes, we can ship Munson guitars within the UK and internationally where practical.
Shipping costs and arrangements depend on the destination, insurance requirements and the instrument itself. We will confirm this before the final payment stage.
